Forty families of Kanaguda village under Kalimela police station in Malkangiri district of Odisha are alleged to have left their village on Tuesday due to threat and harassment by Maoists.
According to sources, during the past few weeks they were being terrorised by Maoists. On October 14 night, two tribal youths of this village, Soma Madkami and Rama Madhi, had been shot by the Maoists. After that armed Maoists were reported to be coming to the village regularly to threaten the villagers accusing them of having links with the police. As per reports, 40 families decided to leave their homes along with their domestic animals and things of day-to-day use.
In May and June this year, 60 tribal families from Panasput and Andrapalli villages from cut off area of Balimela reservoir in Malkangiri district had also left their villages because of harassment and torture of Maoists.
